About The Geography

       The Greek myth of Orion took place on many different places. These places were  the island of Chios, the island of Lemnos, and the island of Crete. It also took place on the water in between all of these islands, since Orion could walk on water. Below is information about the islands where it took place.

       This is the island of Chios, where the story begins.  Chios is located in the east Aegian sea. That large land mass to its right is Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). Chios's capital is Chios. It is located at exactly 38 degrees 24'N 26 degrees 01'E. Chios is a very fertile island, producing many fruits and vegetables. It belongs to the Greek Government. The average air temperature is 20.5 degrees celcius, and the average sea temperature is 21 degrees celcius. The northern and central parts of the island have many mountains, while the southern part of the island is more flat and hilly.

      This is the island of Lemnos, where Hephaestus gave Orion a cyclops to guide him to the sun. The average air temperature is 20.6 degrees celcius, and the average sea temperature is 21 degrees celcius. The southern and eastern parts of the island have larger mountains, while the north west is more flat. Lemnos is in the north east Aegian Sea. Lemnos is located at exactly 39 degrees 54'N, 25 degrees 21'E. Lemnos is a fertile island, with good vegetation.

      This is the island of Crete, where Orion died. Crete was a mainly flat land, but it had some mountains to the far west and far east. The average air temperature is 25.7 degrees celcius, and the average water temperature is 20.7 degrees celcius. Crete is located at 35 degrees 15'N, 25 degrees 00'N. Crete has average vegetation, with many trees and plants.
